Meera and Matthew

14th October 2018

Meera and Matthew chose to have their 'Big Vegan Indian Wedding' at Shearsby Bath in Leicester. Their day consisted of a romantic civil ceremony, a traditional Hindu ceremony and an informal and fun reception.

Meera works in mental health and is training to become a counsellor. Matthew works in a local gym as an operations manager and a personal trainer. He is passionate about health and fitness and loves spreading the vegan word in his field.

Matthew had been vegetarian For 7 years before becoming vegan in March 2017. Meera had grown up as a vegetarian and had been her whole life. Meera made the decision to become vegan late 2016 and made the change in Jan 2017.

During the Hindu ceremony, it is traditional to use a mix of yogurt  honey and milk. They chose to use vegan alternatives, which confused everyone but they stuck to doing what was right for them.

With lots to pack in to one day, the Civil Ceremony started at 9am! No one was complaining though as guests were offered a breakfast that included vegan pastries, cereal, Paraguay (stuffed Indian flat bread) and soy yoghurt.

'My white dress was lace and fitted. As soon as I tried it on after the shop owner recommended it, I fell in love. It was romantic looking and that fit the theme for the Civil Ceremony'

'The henna was vegan and it was made with all natural ingredients.'

Meera and Matthew's favourite moment of the entire was seeing each other for the first time at the Hindu wedding even though they had just got legally married 3 hours earlier!

'Matthew and his family really adapted well to hindu traditions and the craziness that Indian weddings bring.'

'My evening outfit was super glitzy and I got it because I loved it because it was something i would never go for.'

'All the food was provided by the venues caterer who were so understanding about making sure everything was vegan.

We also had a buffet of sweet treats from The Little Vegan Bakery based in Coventry. We had billionaires, millionaires and mini cookies'

'We had the cake for the reception which was a night sky theme because Matthew loves astronomy.

The cake was 3 tier (vanilla, coffee and chocolate) galaxy themed cake from Vic's Vegan Bakes'

Meera's Aunty made vegan chocolate and nut squares for wedding favours.

Wow! Loving all the beautiful outfits at Meera and Matthew's wedding. Wishing them all the happiness for the future and thanking them for sharing their day with us.

'Do what makes you happy. Don't worry about other people as they will never be happy no matter what you do. Everyone moaned about us holding a vegan wedding for example, but we stayed  true to our morals and it was all fine and infact everyone said how delicious all of the food was and how tasty the cake was!'
